Abbey wins service award from Oracle Users Group
DEDHAM, Mass. (May 8, 2008) – Ntirety Inc.'s Database Officer, Oracle Practice, Michael S. Abbey, has received the 2008 Chris Wooldridge Award from the Independent Oracle Users Group. The award is presented annually for outstanding volunteerism to the user group community.
The IOUG presented the Chris Wooldridge Award to Abbey at its annual conference held April 13-17 in Denver, Colorado. Honoring the memory of a well-respected IOUG volunteer, the Wooldridge award recognizes an individual who has donated a significant amount of time, energy and ideas to move the IOUG forward. Based in Chicago, IOUG represents 21,000 Oracle technology professionals.
"Having known and worked with Chris Wooldridge for many years on the IOUG board, I am thrilled to receive this award, in his name especially. Chris was an avid and enthusiastic supporter of the user group programs, and to be alongside many previous recipients of the memorial award is an honor. Some of us experienced Chris' joie–de–vivre first hand, his wit, his outgoing personality, and his willingness to volunteer and enrich the lives of everyone he touched," Abbey said.
Abbey's participation in the program offerings by the IOUG has been ongoing since the early 1990s, specifically his tenure on the board of directors from 1992 through 2000, then 2002 through 2007. He filled a number of portfolios on the board, including Vice President of Communications and Public Relations, as well as Director of Events. In cooperation with the IOUG Director of Education, Abbey was responsible to the board for the delivery of IOUG Live (1997-2000) as well as the COLLABORATE (2003-2008) shows.
"It's no surprise to us that Michael was honored with this award because we see everyday his commitment to our industry and to assisting the entire Oracle community. Michael is a true leader in the IOUG and the database field," said Michael Corey, CEO and founder of Ntirety, who in 1995 was the recipient of the predecessor of the Chris Wooldridge Award.
Abbey is an authority on database administration, installation, development, application migration, performance tuning and implementation. Along with Corey, Abbey has co–authored14 books for McGraw–Hill's Oracle Press Series, including most recently Oracle 10g – A Beginner's Guide.
